Dr. David Hankins | June 17


Dr. David Hankins is passionate communicator of God’s Word and Pastor Eric’s father. Dr. Hankins has served as the Executive Director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, Vice President of Cooperative Program for the SBC, and as pastor of churches in Texas and Louisiana. He is the author of One Sacred Effort, which is required reading by every Southern Baptist seminary student. Since retirement Dr. Hankins loves spending time with his wife Patty and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also likes to get a round of golf in whenever possible. 

 

Dr. Charles Smith | President, University of Mobile | June 24

Dr. Charles W. Smith is the recently elected president of the University of Mobile. Prior to his presidency, he served as the Senior Vice president for Institutional Relations and Assistant Professor of Christian Leadership at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College in Kansas City, Missouri. Smith co-founded the “For the Church” Institute and Conference, which provides free resources and online classes to thousands of students around the world. Smith and his wife Ashely are from Montgomery, Alabama, and have three daughters.

Dr. Adam Harwood | Faculty Member NOBTS | July 1

Dr. Adam Harwood served on the staff of Southern Baptist churches in Oklahoma and Texas for 13 years and taught at three institutions before his election to the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary’s faculty in 2013, where he now chairs the Theology department. He and Pastor Eric did their doctoral degrees together and have continued to collaborate on theological projects. Dr. Harwood serves as a Bible study teacher and deacon at First Baptist Church New Orleans, and he is a NAMB-endorsed chaplain in the Louisiana Army National Guard. He has written, edited, or contributed to nine books, including a major systematic theology text, Christian Theology: Biblical, Historical, and Systematic. He and his wife Laura have four children. 

Dr. Chuck Kelley | President Emeritus, NOBTS | July 8

Dr. Chuck Kelley served as the eighth President of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary from 1996 to 2019 and continues as President Emeritus and Distinguished Research Professor of Evangelism. He is founder and director of Innovative Evangelism as well as an itinerant preacher and evangelist. Dr. Kelley is known throughout the Southern Baptist Convention for his dynamic preaching and his expertise on evangelism and church growth.
Since his retirement as President of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary on July 31, 2019, Dr. Kelley and his wife, Dr. Rhonda Kelley, moved to Fairhope and immediately became part of the fabric at First. Since Rhonda’s homegoing, Chuck has continued in encouraging pastors and staff even during this season of life.

David Laflin | Illusionist | July 15

David and Teesha Laflin are internationally recognized illusionists.  They have entertained and inspired audiences all over the world through their unique blend of both classic and cutting edge illusions.  Their programs have been featured at the NCAA Final Four, on TV, at Indofest in Indonesia, and at conferences and conventions all over the world.  The Laflins have performed at a wide range of venues, from churches with a regular attendance of 25,000+ to churches of under 100.“This amazing, fast-paced, show kept everyones attention and clearly presented the Gospel!”

Dr. Keith Manuel | Louisiana Baptist Conv / Confident K9s | July 22

Dr. Keith Manual is the Director of Evangelism for the Louisiana Baptist Convention. He is tasked with calling believers to use a variety of means to bring the gospel to a lost world. As as a Chaplain for the Louisiana State Police, Keith was introduced to the role service dogs could play in the lives of people who had experienced trauma. Keith learned the process and began training dogs, eventually starting Confidence K9’s ministry. He will be bringing his loyal Lab Luke to present an innovative approach to the gospel. 

Dr. Jamie Dew | President, NOBTS | July 29

Dr. Jamie Dew is the president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Leavell College. Previously, he was the Vice President for Undergraduate Studies and Distance Learning at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He holds an MDiv and PhD in theological studies from SEBTS, as well as a PhD in philosophy of mind and philosophy of religion from the University of Birmingham (UK). He is married to Tara, and they have two sets of twins.
